dear good people,
with so much swirling around us, i’ve found comfort in the unconditional love of a pet.
two years after adopting a dog (rescued from under a dumpster), i feel warmly welcomed by the dog people of nyc. the scene is not for everyone, but i’m happy with daily visits to central park, supporting small businesses (doggystyle for best dog store in nyc), and boosting my creative thinking.
it’s also fun teaching a dog how to navigate the big city — maneuver a crowded sidewalk, pop into the bodega or slice shop, or look for the dogist. we meet new friends (canine and human) from all walks of life and we keep a running list that helps us remember their names.
plenty more dogs (and other fury friends) need homes, especially since your local shelter is likely overwhelmed and so many dogs need homes after the recent hurricanes, including brother wolf animal rescue in asheville.
good music
this playlist is updated at the beginning of every month. it’s intended for a spectrum of moods and to be played from top to bottom. playlists dating back to 2016 are available in my spotify bio.
good content
i’ve always been a huge fan of everyday oil, specifically their product, newsletter, and playlists. their facility in black mountain, nc was heavily impacted by hurricane helene and they’re sharing links to people, local businesses, and organizations who are still in great need of support.
support hurricane victims by purchasing this 135-track compilation of unreleased recordings from an all-star collection of bands like the war on drugs, fleet foxes, animal collective, the mountain goats, sylvan esso, and 130 more.
here’s a gorgeous look into our most intimate moments as humans.
fall fits are back: chore coats aren’t cool anymore. barn jackets are. set yourself apart this season.
comedian watch: go see sheng wang live in a city near you.
support live, local radio: one of my favorite things about road trips is listening (even if i’m streaming from afar) to WMVY (martha’s vineyard), WWOZ (new orleans), WERS (boston), KEXP (seattle), KCRW (LA).
get your miles: run clubs are the new dating app.
still wondering what made those chocolate muffins in the olympic village so good.
calamari, an easy shareable that was “invented” by business school students and established china’s pre-eminence over seafood.
yay for government doing its job by protecting consumers and trying to rid the internet of fake-reviews.
there are between 170,000 and 300 billion starbucks’ drink combinations available “and the person in front of you always seems to be ordering 100 million of them.”
waiting for grammar nerds for harris and walz to be a powerful interest group. or hypebeasts for kamala who wear this throwback tee.
it's always fun to see my colleagues and our clients featured in stories about what's happening in cities...recent highlights include public grocery stores as a solution to urban food deserts, the future of downtown commercial real estate, and the how investing in and creating additional parks, trails, and green space have become even more crucial for economic development.
