good people share: no. 22
june '24: sat next to david byrne, showed ample thigh, and minimized twalking, plus a few live shows for your consideration.
dear good people,
bless the teacher who recently offered a loud-enough reminder to all the passengers on my AC-less subway car (and her students) — “watch your manners and say excuse me.”
that’s definitely a cardinal (and often neglected) rule in cities, especially when it’s a scorcher (just wait for july).
while plenty of friendliest-city listicles exist, it’s unclear who oversees the official criteria, which i hope includes happily giving directions, sharing your portable fan, not twalking, and following that teacher’s reminder.
good music
this playlist is updated at the beginning of every month. it’s intended for a spectrum of moods and to be played from top to bottom. playlists dating back to 2016 are available in my spotify bio.
good content
only in nyc: i sat next to david byrne at illinoise and we both really enjoyed the award-winning show directed by justin peck and based on sufjan stevens’ 2005 album by the same name.
countdown until november: pollsters keep asking voters about biden’s record. a majority of them know little or nothing about historic pieces of legislation — like the once-in-a-generation infrastructure bill. we need them (especially those living in swing states) to know by november 5.
despite record-breaking temps, workers aren’t protected: “if you pick fruit in a field, walk door to door delivering packages, stack boxes in an oppressively hot warehouse or do any number of other jobs without air-conditioning, you don’t have much legal protection against working under sweltering conditions.”
mt. everest is jam-packed: 70 years after edmund hillary and tenzing norgay became the first climbers to summit everest (7,000 people have done it since then), a new climbing technique could cut time it takes to summit from two months to about one…but requires even more money, spare time, disruption, and extreme athletic experience.
more 90s nostalgia: remember those tear-away photo calendars? organizational psychologist adam grant made an analog version of your life coach instagram algorithm.
mexico city based running brand hermanos koumori: “whether you're a beginner looking to start your running journey or simply curious about the culture surrounding running, this dictionary is your guide to understanding the language of the track, the trail, and the pavement.”
semi-correction: don’t get me wrong, i’m still a fan of the delicious peanut butter bar (and protein), but i forgot to mention that each bar contains 29% percent of your daily fat content.
team short (and mesh) shorts: long and baggier shorts are back, but showing “ample thigh” has prevailed.
dog gear recommendations: favorite leash: atlas (with the traffic handle) // favorite healthy snack and brain game: pupsicle // favorite healthy people snack for the dog: blueberries
lenny kravitz (who’s allegedly 60) on concerts without phones: reminiscing with zane lowe about 90s crowds grooving, dancing, celebrating, and “being in the moment to experience something and not have to prove they were there.”
perhaps you fly with cannabis: at least follow the “rules.”
support my buddy jack as he runs 2,835 miles across the US and raises money for live oak - a new take on sleep-away camp — wilderness trips, leadership training, personal mentorship, and employment opportunities for campers.
james blake twofer: blake’s music accompanied kyle abraham’s ballet love letter (on shuffle), which after 10 minutes, converted me into a fan of modern ballet AND weeks later, blake hosted a b-sides solo show at a church in brooklyn, which earned a spot in my concert hall of fame.
